The National Cancer Center recently published its latest cancer report on China in its own English-language journal, The Journal of the National Cancer Center.Statistics show that in 2016, there were about 4.064 million new cancer cases and 2.4135 million new cancer deaths in China.The release was based on data from 487 cancer registries across the country.Lung cancer, colorectal cancer, stomach cancer, liver cancer and female breast cancer are the five most common cancers, accounting for 57.4 percent of all new cancer cases, the data showed.Lung, liver, stomach, colorectal and esophageal cancer were the five leading causes of cancer death, accounting for 69.3% of all cancer deaths.Notably, the incidence and mortality rates for esophageal, gastric and liver cancers have decreased significantly, while those for colorectal, prostate, female breast, cervical and thyroid cancers have increased.From the age of onset, cancer incidence and mortality increase with age.The age groups 60 to 64 and 50 to 54 had the highest number of cancer cases, while the age groups 60 to 64 and 75 to 79 had the highest number of cancer deaths in males and females, respectively.Overall, the morbidity and mortality rates were higher in males than in females, but higher in females in the 20-49 age group.In terms of regions, south China has the highest incidence, followed by northeast China and East China.Central China has the highest death rate, followed by northeast China and South China.Different regions should develop their own cancer prevention and control plans in accordance with national cancer prevention and control guidelines to reduce the burden of these highly lethal diseases, the paper said.Declaration: The copyright of this article belongs to the original author, if there is a source error or infringement of your legitimate rights and interests, you can contact us through the mailbox, we will promptly deal with.Email address: jpbl@jp.jiupainews.com
